Connectivity - 95/98/ME
- On the desktop, right-click the Network Neighborhood icon and select
Properties from the context menu to bring up the Network dialog
box.

- Select TCP/IP in the list of network components and click the
properties button. This brings
up the Microsoft TCP/IP Properties dialog box.
- If TCP/IP is listed more than once, select the one that is bound
to the device you use to connect to the Internet. For example, it may
say "TCP/IP -> Your Modem" where Your Modem is the manufacturer and
model number of the modem installed in your computer. If you use cable
or DSL to connect to the Internet, you should select the TCP/IP that
is bound to the network card which is attached to the cable modem or
DSL device. If you're not sure which is which, perform the procedure
on each TCP/IP protocol item listed.
- By default, the IP Address tab is selected. Click the DNS tab. Doing
so displays your DNS settings.
- Click the Enable DNS radio button, enter a host name in the host
name box and a domain name in the domain name box.
- The host name is the name of your computer on the network, and
it can be almost any name you like. Don't use the same name as
any of the Exchange servers, which are named Villager1,
Villager2, etc. The name should contain only letters and
numbers.
- The domain name should match the part after the @ sign in your
email address.
- In the box under Domain Suffix Search Order, type webville.net
and click Add. After you click Add, it will appear in the list
below the entry box. See the screen shot below.

- You do not need to put anything in the DNS servers list.
- Click OK again to close the Network dialog. Click Yes to restart
your computer (if necessary).
- The key point is that when you're finished, webville.net has been
added to the list of domain suffixes.
The next step in the setup process after configuring the DNS suffix
search order (or installing the HOSTS file) is the
Connectivity Test. You can return to the
Step-By-Step page and go from there if you
prefer.
